Spoiler: the toxic people I’m removing doesn’t include Tom, my boyf. This is just us on a recent trip to the Norfolk broads!

I’m removing toxic people from my life.

Ok, that sounds super negative, but it’s true.

This year, I’m reaching a milestone birthday (not to mention which one), and it’s really had me thinking.

Starting this blog and building my own business has made me value my own time more than ever.

Time is the most precious thing I have.

Every moment of my day is now intentional. I’m working harder than ever on my mindset and positivity, and there isn’t room for toxic people in my life anymore.

Starting my own business has really made me think about who and what I actually value. Who builds me up, rather than brings me down.

As someone who suffers from mild social anxiety (thanks C*19), there are people in my life (even now) who cause me a lot of anxiety and negativity.

But why do I continue to allow these people to be in my life?

In our twenties, we like to please everyone. We care so deeply about what people think of us. But what if we didn’t care about what everyone thinks?

What if we just let go, became our true selves, spent time with people that meant something to us and removed any toxic energies from our lives?

I read a quote last week that said;

“If a flower fails to bloom, do we blame the flower? Or do we blame the environment it has been put in?”

I now think about this quote every single day.

Every single day, I remind myself that I have to surround myself with positivity. Love. Acceptance. Happiness.

I’m approaching 30 years old. I now have enough self-confidence and self-worth to realise, that I don’t want to be spending hours of my evenings making small talk with someone I barely know.

I don’t want to spend hundreds of pounds on a night out when I’ll only feel like shit the next day.

I don’t want to feel pressured to drink alcohol, just to be ‘fun’.

I want to surround myself with people who believe in me, support me, and ask questions.

I want to listen to friends and build them up, support their journey and be proud of them, as they should be of me, regardless of what I/them are doing.

There isn’t space in our lives for people who bring us down. There isn’t space for negativity.

Our brains are so easily tricked into thinking our thoughts are the truth.

If we spend an hour moaning and complaining with a friend about so-and-so, telling each other we’ll never make x-amount of money or never be this or that, our brain will believe it.

Your brain doesn’t recognise that this is just a negative thought that you’re saying to please your friend. Or to fit in.

Distance yourself from toxic people. You are worth so much more.

From now on, I am only surrounding myself with the right people. People that are right for me. That motivate me, inspire me and build me up, rather than dragging me back to a place in the past where I thought nothing I wanted was possible.

And you should do the same.

Starting your own online business is tough.

It is tough. Not just money-wise, effort-wise, and time-wise, but it makes you vulnerable.

It pushes you completely out of your comfort zone. It challenges your mindset on a daily basis.

You must not allow the judgement of others to stop you.

I think fear of judgement was the reason I didn’t take the plunge for so many years.

The random opinions of others, others who don’t pay my bills or live in my house. And half the time, the thoughts I THINK they have about me probably aren’t even true.

And even if they are true, so what?!

You don’t have to justify yourself to anyone.

You don’t have to explain how you are making money.

You don’t have to prove to everyone around you that you are good enough to do something extraordinary.

It’s your life, your business, your choice.

Failure doesn’t exist.

It really doesn’t.

When you think about it, failure only exists if you’re living up to the expectations of others.

Failure doesn’t exist if you don’t care what anybody else thinks.

For example, if you quit your 9-5 accounting job, and 3 years into your journey, you decide you’re tired of the online world. You want to move back into the world of finance and have a salary job again.

After all, the ‘safe job’ will always only be an application away.

Is this failure? No, it’s a choice!

You chose the right thing to do, for you.

If anything, it’s a success! You’re listening to yourself. Honouring your wants and needs! You’re not failing.

Might someone in your life comment that your online business has ‘failed’?

Maybe, but who cares? They don’t know the ins and outs of your life, how your brain works, what your values are or how you want your life to be!

You have only failed if you allow their opinions to affect you.

Jennie Wanders is evolving.

As you may have guessed, JW is going through some exciting changes.

Whilst travel will always be my number one love, my second passion has always been escaping the ordinary.

What do I mean by this? Well, I’ve never, ever, wanted to live an ordinary life.

I’ve never wanted a 9-5. I’ve never wanted a mortgage, a pet, a steady income or a set routine. It just doesn’t align with who I am.

Maybe in the future, who knows. But for now, and for the past 29 years of my life, it hasn’t worked.

And the thing is, I know it doesn’t align with so many of you.

18 months ago, I set up this travel blog with the dream of being able to quit my teaching job and live a life of full-time travel.

Flash forward to now, and I’m currently 2.5 months away from leaving England to travel with Tom full time, and my income is entirely remote.

Now I want to show you how to do the same.

Over the next few months, JW will not only be a place of travel inspiration and information but a hub of guidance on becoming a successful online business owner.

Because I know, just like me, there are more of us out there.

More of us who don’t want to live for the weekend.

Who realise time is more precious than anything.

Make sure you sign up to my email list to be the first to know about the changes (and honestly, some of them will be life-changing!), and join me on this crazy and wonderful adventure we’re embarking on.

The world of online business.

Dream big, it’s happening!

Happy travelling!

Jennie 🙂 x

  1. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote
the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog.
A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
